The first thing you have to do to write an article about summer, is to set up your laptop on the patio table in the backyard on a beautiful, sunny, warm day. It looks nice out, but—false alarm—in roll the clouds and you get back inside. There’s a call from your editor: “Is it done yet?” No, just waiting for that inspiring moment. Finally, a beauty of a day—and it’s only the third week of June.

Joe says... As spring comes to an end, so does Manitoba’s social season. While there is a short summer break for weddings, cabins and other outdoor activities, it all starts up again after the Labour Day long weekend—roughly about the time it takes the blue-ink stamp on your hand from that last May social to rub off. |

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of 92 CITI FM has allowed me to reflect back on my own years in broadcasting, which number almost 30 as well. I can remember trying to look behind my parents’ stand-up radio/record player, when I was about three years old to try and see the miniature people who I was sure were back there doing all that talking and singing. |

Joe says... For years, the only reference I made to resolutions had to do with the picture quality of TVs I saw on sale for Boxing Week. Not this year, though. I am determined to make a list and start the year off by putting more pressure on myself. Yes, new year’s resolutions for the year I am personally dubbing “Joe 8!”

Tom says... Time flies, and time management is one of my worst skills—it’s a deadly cocktail, especially when you have an editor waiting and you’re past deadline.
So, as I lay in bed early today, the morning after daylight-savings, I had a brilliant idea: We haven’t set the clocks back yet, so if I get up right now, and write this article, it can be done in no time at all. I mean, literally, no time, since, when I finish, I can turn the clocks back an hour, and be right back where I started. |
