U-Boat Watches
New to Dimitra’s Jewellers is the U-Boat line of watches. The line has a long history, having been designed in 1942 by the Fontana workshop for the distinguished officers of the Italian Navy’s submarines (also known as U-boats). Though the project was ultimately scrapped, the distinctive drawings, colour samples and original materials were lovingly preserved for more than 60 years. In 2000, Italo Fontana, a cousin of the workshop’s late founder, realized a longtime company dream by producing the line. For more information visit Dimitra’s Jewellers at 1700 Corydon Ave.
Panamera Launch
Once again Auto Haus Porsche out did themselves with their introduction of the all new four-door Panamera. The event was reminiscent of a Hollywood production with a light show and huge video screens. They also combined the elegance of this new model with the latest fashions from Hugo Boss, a new Tag watch worth over $100,000, the finest Tolaini wines and, of course, a collection of private jets—just to compliment the dream world.
Special Olympics
The annual Special Olympics Festival fundraiser for Special Olympics Manitoba took place at the Delta Winnipeg on Thursday November 12, and had over 300 people in attendance. The event auctions this year alone raised over $60,000 and included Studio Publications’ Dish Magazine’s donation of a ‘Pantry Raid’ webisode featuring chef Rob Thomas, which raised $1,600! A combined investment of up to $5 million by the governments of Canada and Manitoba in 12 new innovative galleries at the Manitoba Children’s Museum will present a world of experiences, featuring leading-edge technology, that entertain as they educate. The museum plans to renew its current gallery and add a 3,500 square foot welcome centre to its current location at The Forks. The remainder of the overall project costs of $9.5 million is being provided through museum donations and fundraising activities.

Congrats go out to the three lucky people who took home the Lab Rats razors: Richard Szukiewicz, Sandi Masserey and Bob Kelln, who won the very swanky Braun 360. Here’s what Bob had to say: “This is the best shaver I have ever had. I especially like the self cleaning feature. Previously I used an older model Braun, but it does not compare.”
Congratulations to Grant Gillis of Brandon who won the one-hour “familiarization flight” with Winnipeg Aviation. In our last issue, we asked you to tell us why you would rather be flying. Gillis’ winning response: “Maybe an opportunity to join the mile high club.” We hope that works out for him. Congrats also to Rob Klemchuk, who successfully identified the cow on top of the meat market on Nairn Ave. and won himself a $20 gift certificate from WOW! Hospitality.
