Before GPS, compasses and matches, a person’s wits and skill were all they had to survive. See if you have what it takes at the Hunter Gatherer Challenge at FortWhyte Alive on May 14. This event will see you make fires with flint or friction, navigate without a compass, test your hand-eye coordination and tracking skills on a simulated hunt, and test your gathering abilities in the forest. Registration opens April 15 and closes May 21. The fee is only $10 and includes regular admission to FortWhyte—call 204-989-8355 to register! For more information, call 204-989-8358 or email
