Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a fatal, rapidly progressive neuromuscular disease that currently affects between 2,500 and 3,000 Canadians, more than 200 of which live right here in Manitoba. Winnipeg Walks for ALS takes place on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Assiniboine Park, during which Winnipeggers have the chance to raise money that not only goes towards research to find a cure for ALS, but also helps to provide support services to families affected by the disease. Last year, Winnipeg’s walk raised over $108,000. To register or for more information, call Brian Campbell, events/volunteer coordinator at the ALS Society of Manitoba, at (204) 837-1270 or visit www.alsmb.ca.
