Lab Rat ID: Joseph, Age: 28 Occupation: Mechanical Engineer Your usual scent/lotion/soap? I use AXE “Clix” body spray and deodorant, Dolce & Gabbana cologne and lots of soap...sometimes you can never wash away the failure.
Product #1: RGX—Right Guard Body spray “Surge” First impressions? To tell you the truth I thought it was some kind of energy drink. The taste was unexpected, but it definitely got me buzzed.
Did you like the smell? It wasn’t terrible, a bit geezerish, not my style.
The experience? The first time I used it, it was like someone shot one of those dance club smoke makers in my face. The stuff covered my bathroom in a foggy, musky mist and I literally had to leave to get air.
Any response from the ladies? It let me seal the deal with a girl I was seeing, but that might have been due to my prepubescent charm, so in the end I don’t think I really got any response from any “random” women. When I put it on before going out some of the general comments from my lady friends were “what IS that?” and “what were you doing in the bathroom?” Product #2: ADIDAS—24-hour Fragrance, Cool Deo Body Spray “Sport Fever” First impressions? It was definitely more balls out, no frills, no nonsense, than the RBX. I thought that it looked like it was more up to the challenge of keeping me at my freshest. However, I wasn’t sure about using a product made by a company who is more known for fusing rubber and leather together than they are for marrying molecules of alcohol and HFCs to skin.
Did you like the smell? I didn’t mind the smell, it was more manly, still not something I would use of my own volition...but I will use the rest of the sample.
The results? It worked relatively well, however, the first and subsequent times I used the spray on my underarms it burned liked hell. The first ingredient was alcohol and the second was Hydrofluorocarbon 152. Ummm, I’m not a dermatologist, but I wonder if there is any connection between the tingling and the HFC content...“cough”… global…“cough”...warming....
Any response from the ladies? One of the times I went out for drinks with my friends, I think the only response I got was from the waitress slinging double rye and cokes at our table. It turns out that three of my friends ended up vomiting that night. I on the other hand was left with a wee bit of headache. I don’t know if the spray acted as a shield or whether it was the fumes coming off me that led to the demise of my friends.
Would you use either again? Overall, I think I will be sticking with my AXE body spray for now...for reasons such as purdy smells, lack of HFCs and limited burning.
LAB RAT ID: George, Age: 32 Occupation: Category Manager
Your usual scent/lotion/soap? Irish Spring.
Product #1: TAG “All-Nighter” First impressions? The name created some high expectations.
Did you like the smell? A bit “aerosolly” and spicy, but otherwise good.
How long did it last? All night, surprisingly.
Where did you go after using it? A summer wedding with no a/c, followed by karaoke till 3 a.m.
Any response from the ladies? Lucy came running to me, but my dog does that no matter what I smell like. At the party I sensed a few sets of elevator eyes in my direction, so something was working.
Product #2: RGX — Right Guard Body spray “Rush” First impressions? This one seemed more like you would use it after sports rather than pre-party. Did you like the smell? It was smooth and subtle—the Chardonnay of sprays, without the oak.
How long did it last? After several hours I knew I didn’t smell bad, but I wasn’t sure if I still smelled good.
And the ladies? My wife liked this one the best.
Lab Rat ID: Javier, Age: 36 Occupation: Intern Architect Your usual scent/lotion/soap? Hugo Boss “Soul.” Have you ever used a scented body spray before?: No. Product #1: Old Spice Classic Body Spray Do you like the smell? Not at all. It made me feel like I had been impregnated with washroom air freshener. Where did you go after using the spray? Work. Any response from the ladies? They kept their distance. My wife complained that the leftover spray on the bathroom floor tiles made them incredibly slippery. Product # 2: RGX – Right Guard Body spray “Chill” First impressions? The packaging is attractive. Do you like the smell? Not bad for a body spray. How long did it last? Four hours or so. Where did you go after using the spray? Work. Any response from the ladies? Unnoticeable. |
