Battle of the Body Washes

Product: The Olive Branch shower gel, Lush     Price: $10.95 for 100 ml

Do you usually use body wash?
On the very rare occasions that I decide to bathe, I do tend to make use of body wash.

lushBefore you started using it, did you think you would like this product?
The first thing I read on the bottle refers to the shower gel as “reassuring”. For me, when I find I am feeling confused, or not so confident, I don’t look to small bottles of cleansing gel to be reassured.

How was the smell?
While the smell of the product itself wasn’t very appealing, I found that after it was used, the smell emanating from my skin was delightful.

How did it make your skin feel?
My skin actually felt quite soft afterwards. The dry scales that normally cover my body were softened up, and afterwards, I was able to rub my arms without the usual accompanying scraping noises.

Any feedback from the opposite sex?

I wouldn’t say I received any feedback per se from members of the opposite sex but I did notice a slight difference in their demeanor. The usual female reaction I experience (a mix of revulsion and horror) seemed to be replaced by more of a neutral disregard, with the odd sprinkle
of tolerance mixed in.

gilletteBefore you started using it, did you think you would like this product?

I was pretty sure of the quality of the product because I use other Gillette products on a regular basis. I was really sure the product would work when I finally got the bottle open.

How did it make your skin feel?
The wash does the job. I found it dries skin out a bit, but nothing drastic. The face wash was especially good after shaving; it had a clean feeling afterwards for sure. I don’t know about the oil control feature. It was hard to measure. I poured some 10W-30 on my face and it seemed to take that off, though.

Anything else?
I was surprised they got away with selling gel with rocks in it, until I discovered it was part of the face wash treatment. Who knew the driveway was a body spa?

Product : Of a Man Hair and Body Wash, The Body Shop

Price: $15 for 200 ml

Do you usually use body wash?
I never really got on the body wash bandwagon, though I have used it from time to time and have multiple bottles in my house right now. My bathing expectations are similar to my expectations of the Blue Bombers, low so I don’t get disappointed, and they have always been met with a simple bar
of soap and water.

Before you started using it, did you think you would like this product?
To be honest, as soon as I saw “The Body Shop” on the label I immediately had a hot flash, got short of breath and had flashbacks of Christmas shopping in the mall. Every experience I have had in a Body Shop tends to reflect a rugby scrum of women and it honestly scares me. Never stand in the way of women and a delightful-smelling body product. I actually really liked the packaging; it was simple, the white text on pale green package was discreet and the size was perfect for any travel bag.

body shopWhen did you use it?
I’m really not a morning person, so I used it in the morning to prepare for the day ahead. Nothing says business executive like hints of lemon and fig leaves.

How did it make your skin feel?

Is invigorating just a word they use in soap commercials? It actually made my skin feel soft and hydrated, which is weird because it’s called “Of a Man” but my skin felt anything like a typical man’s.

Any feedback from the opposite sex?
Not really, although my friend’s dog started to hump my leg. Coincidence? I think not.

Would you use this product again?
Definitely. I may be new to the whole skin product scene but the fact that they now have 3-in-1 body products on the market like this one gives me hope for future world peace and the Jets back in Winnipeg. The real advantages of this body wash is using one product vs. three and that it’s a convenient size for putting in your bag, whether you are heading to the gym or to the cabin for the weekend.

Additional Comments?
I didn’t connect with the “Of a Man” name. I would have had a deeper connection with it if they had just added an “S” in front. “Sofa Man”–now there’s a brand I would use.
