Committed to providing opportunity for our youth and honouring the legacy of Reverend Harry Lehotsky, Mayor Sam Katz, together with New Life Ministries, invite citizens to nominate individuals for the 2011 Lehotsky Scholarships.
The Lehotsky Scholarship Fund was created in 2006 to award scholarships to young Winnipeggers who have significantly contributed and have acted as an advocate for health and safety for the citizens of Winnipeg’s West End.
“Reverend Harry Lehotsky demonstrated a commitment to community building and ownership that all our citizens can continue to learn from,” said Mayor Sam Katz. “Harry’s outspoken ‘walk the talk’ mentality brought a refreshing attitude of honesty to the problems and challenges our City faces. With this scholarship opportunity, we are hoping to build on Harry’s legacy and encourage young people in our city to lead from the positive example Harry set for all of us.”
Each year, the Mayor awards a total of $5000 in scholarships to eligible recipients at City Hall. Preference will be given to candidates between the ages of 18 and 30 who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the West End community through volunteer work, community leadership or other contributions.
Nomination forms can be obtained online at www.winnipeg.ca.
The deadline for submissions is June 3, 2011.
