This is what I remember.

I remember crying, or rather sobbing uncontrollably. I remember my forearm soaked with the seemingly endless nasal drip that accompanied my tears. I remember calming words, blurry smiles and a supportive hand on my shoulder. Mostly, I remember the mustard yellow carpet.

Winnipeg may not have its own 8th arrondissement or Magnificent Mile, filled with luxury designer boutiques, but that doesn’t mean we are lacking in stylish men, or places for them to shop. This fact is proven by those nominated in our first annual Winnipeg’s Best Dressed Men contest. Our two winners - Dennis Stewner and Jason Clarke - prove that, in many ways, the clothes do make the man – both in and out of the office. Here the boys show off spring looks from trusted clothier Vittorio Rossi, and share their secrets of style.

The chief of police’s office on the fifth floor of the Public Safety Building is a quiet, drab space, furnished with purple waiting chairs and a plastic Christmas tree that, moments from now, will be wrestled through a couple of tight doorways and into an elevator bound for a storage room somewhere in the building’s annals.

At the start of the year we tend to put a lot of emphasis on making resolutions, looking at what we can do to make life richer, easier, healthier and, most importantly, longer. And with all the extra years we expect to gain from our new, healthier lifestyle, planning for our financial future might be the most important move we make in 2008. 

The fact that you’re reading a magazine with “Winnipeg” in its title is a pretty strong indication that you’re no stranger to piloting a vehicle through some nasty winter conditions. However, if you’re like most drivers in this city, the months from May to September are spent enjoying relatively perfect driving conditions, and all those good defensive winter driving habits we developed last November to March have, shall we say, relaxed.
