Snowmobile Storage - the 411 |

Storing the Ski-Doo for the season isn’t simply a question of where, as in, where do I put it? According to Brad Moore, service manager at Headingley Sport Shop, it’s equally a question of how – and it’s the how, he says, that so many snowmobile owners woefully neglect to address. There is a proper way to store your unit for both summer and winter, Moore explains, and if not done correctly, it can cost you more than you’ll like in the long run. The fundamentals boil down to three essential points:
1) Keep the tracks elevated and off the ground during the summer season, as they will become worn if rested upon the more abrasive exposed earth instead of snow. For that matter, even long inactive periods on snow or ice will cause erosion.
2) Drain the fuel tank. Put simply, gas goes bad over time, so the best thing to do is simply replace the fuel each winter. Otherwise add stabilizer to the aged fuel supply.
3) Remove the battery and store it – this will extend the battery’s longevity, as it will otherwise lose more of its charge.
Headingley Sport Shop can provide both the above services and storage facilities as part of a pre-priced storage package; call 889-5377 for details. |
