The birds and the bees isn’t such a good explanation anymore (was it ever?) when it comes to talking to teenagers about sex.
If you need some help discussing the sometimes taboo issues, like sexually transmitted infections, condom use and drugs, get your hands on the Little Black Book, an address book for teens that includes pages and pages of important information about things like sex, drugs, travel, living away from home, smoking and stress. Put out by the Sexuality Education Resource Centre in Brandon, this modern book frankly talks about health and lifestyle issues that won’t make teens run for the door. Pick one up and save your child the embarrassment of you awkwardly sputtering out words like…deflowering. They’ll appreciate it. Order a copy at SERC.mb.ca. |
