Click to watch David Asper’s announcement about the new stadium proposal on youronlinechannel.com.
_____________________________ Following the City of Winnipeg’s rapid-transit announcement, involving a corridor from downtown to the University of Manitoba, David Asper upped the ante in his effort to build a new football stadium in Winnipeg with a new proposal. On Sept 15, Asper announced that he is now offering $100 million to go towards building the stadium, and the U of M entered into an agreement with Asper’s Creswin Properties to allow the facility to be built at Chancellor Matheson Drive and University Crescent. The new proposal is being touted as more of an amateur sports complex than the previously proposed Point Douglas and Polo Park locations and will also be the home of the U of M’s Manitoba Bisons football team. This new community-friendly angle and location is hoped to bring in the $35 million in government money needed to fund the rest of the building costs.

Summer for dads in Winnipeg means heading outside and hanging out on a community field somewhere and watching the kids play soccer, baseball or football. Many of us pass the time by socializing with other parents, which is great–until the fifth week when listening to another round of some guy’s offshore investments speech just makes my head explode. |

Winnipeg. If you live here and travel a bit, you know that most Canadians think you have to be a bit nuts to live here to a) endure the winters and b) battle the mosquitoes. If pressed, they will concede that the ‘Peg is also a rich cultural place that produces great artists, musicians and bands. So, go forth into the world, brothers, give up your stories of survival and instead enlighten those you meet with the coolness that is Winnipeg’s next great band. |
